Restorative Dentistry: Fillings

What happens during a filling?
Dental fillings are placed in decayed teeth. First, the decayed portion of your tooth is removed and cleaned. Tooth-coloured resin is then placed and shaped to mimic your tooth. The resin is then cured, trimmed and polished to make sure your bite is right.

How long do fillings last?
The lifespan of fillings depends on how well you maintain your oral hygiene and routine check ups. On average, fillings can last anywhere from seven to 12 years before needing replacement.

What types of fillings are there? The most widely known filling materials are white and silver. We use a variety of filling materials depending on what the tooth requires.
