Preventive Dentistry: Cleaning

What happens during a dental cleaning?
First, your x-rays will be taken to assess if there are any underlying cavities or issues in your mouth. Next, one of our Registered Dental Hygienists will scale your teeth, polish them, and apply fluoride if necessary. By the end of the appointment, you’ll be leaving the practice with pearly whites and a goodie bag with your own toothbrush, toothpaste and floss 🙂

Can dental cleaning damage teeth?
Dental cleanings do not damage the enamel on your teeth! Cleanings safely remove the calculus (aka: tartar) and bacteria that builds up around teeth and under the gums. Bacteria, that if not removed, can cause gum disease.

How often should I get my teeth cleaned?
You will usually hear that you should get your teeth cleaned twice a year. But the truth is everyone is different 🙂 What may be regular for you, may not be for someone else. Some regulars come every three months, others six.
